1st ECN Board Meeting 2026

On 13. and 14. of January, the ECN Board met in Cologne, Germany, to discuss the ECN strategy and priorities for 2026. Hosted by David Wilken from Bundesgütegemeinschaft Kompost e.V. the meeting highlighted ECN’s commitment to driving Europe’s shift towards sustainable management of organic resources, supported by effective policy engagement, high-quality compost and digestate, and close cooperation throughout the circular bioeconomy.
A central topic was the increasing importance of carbon farming, where compost and digestate play a valuable role in improving soil health and contributing to climate mitigation. Ensuring quality continues to be a fundamental pillar of ECN’s activities, as it builds confidence, supports market development and guarantees the safe recycling of organic matter back into soils.
In addition, the date for the upcoming ECN Annual Meeting, 4 May 2026, was agreed. Collectively, efforts remain focused on reinforcing the conditions for separate collection, biological treatment and the productive use of organic resources across Europe.
