The ECN answered to a public consultation from the European Commission on the future revision of the Public Procurement Directives.
Given the potential of public procurement for steering public spending towards greater sustainability, the ECN calls the Commission to make green public procurement, currently only voluntary, mandatory. This would further incentivise the use of circular materials such as compost and digestate derived from bio-waste in public procurement.
