Mission
ECN has a mission to lead and support the transition to sustainable organic resource management across Europe, keeping our soils healthy, strengthening our resource independence, countering climate change and supporting the green transition, by:
- Advocating and shaping policy that enables separate collection, biological treatment, recovering nutrients, carbon sequestration, beneficial use of organic resources and closing the organic cycle;
- Promoting and facilitating high quality compost and digestate production and use through standards, quality assurance and best practice exchange;
- Strengthening the circular bio-economy by connecting stakeholders—practitioners, researchers, policy makers and industry—to share knowledge and drive innovation;
- Supporting capacity building, education and collaboration to ensure effective recycling systems and quality products for environmental and societal benefit.
- Representing members in advancing the aforementioned to enhance favourable frameworks and market opportunities for biological treatment and recycled organic products.
