The ECN has submitted to the European Commission on 10 June 2026 its feedback on the future Biotech Act II.
The ECN welcomes the initiative of the Commission to extend the scope of the Biotech Act through a new Biotech Act II to include bio-based materials such as fertilisers, and it recommends to take several key measures:
- Tackling regulatory bottlenecks and eliminate inconsistencies in the Fertilising Products Regulation and the Animal By-Product Regulation.
- Setting recycled nutrients targets for fertilising products and peat replacement targets for growing media.
- Providing financial support for the use of compost and digestate by end-users.
