World Soil Day 2018 – 5 December
The Italian Composting and Biogas Association (CIC) is organising the 2nd edition of will organise an event on soil protection for celebration the World Soil Day 2019 on 5th December 2018 in Assisi (Italy).
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO):
- Soil holds three times as much carbon as the atmosphere and can help us meet the challenges of a changing climate
- 815 million people are food insecure and 2 billion people are nutritionally insecure, but we can mitigate this through soil.
- 95% of our food comes from soil
- 33% of our global soils are already degraded
The event will focus on the role of soil organic matter for minimising soil erosion, increasing soil biodiversity and capturing CO2 for mitigating climate change. The event will be held in Italian. Please find the programme: here
